Intense Battles in Space
In Iron Marines Invasion, players engage in real-time strategy as they command hero units, space marines, aliens, and mechs. From an aerial view, they navigate these units across changing landscapes to complete objectives and protect life in the vastness of space.
One unique aspect of the game is that units can engage in combat and heal themselves over time. This requires players to strategically combine units and build defenses to successfully defeat their enemies while keeping their own forces intact.
A Bigger Mission to Accomplish
The campaign in Iron Marines Invasion is significantly larger than its predecessor, with twice as many levels and a variety of planets and environments to explore. However, some levels feel like repeats of the first game, while others showcase the developers’ improved RTS design skills.
The unit design in this game is similar to the first one, with the same archetypes and limited customization options. While players can mix and match units for different objectives, there is still overlap in their roles.
The High Cost of Space War
Changes made outside of the levels in Iron Marines Invasion are the most noticeable and unwanted. There are fewer hero characters and unit packs included, a confusing level navigation menu, constant prompts for notifications, and a limited tech tree upgrade system. Additionally, while the base game has fewer hero characters, players can purchase more for an additional cost.
These changes may not directly affect gameplay, but they create a negative experience. While players may not need to purchase additional units to complete the campaign, the emphasis on monetization is off-putting. These issues were present in the first game, but are more prevalent in Iron Marines Invasion.
The Essentials of the Game
Iron Marines Invasion offers a significant number of new levels for players to enjoy. However, the game’s attempt to expand beyond its basic model feels insignificant, with some changes solely focused on making more money from players. Despite these drawbacks, the intense battles and strategic gameplay make it a thrilling experience.
